This workshop will start with a gentle yoga practice which is designed to activate the necessary muscles, regulate the breath and bring focus and balance to the mind and body. In the second part of this workshop, you will learn the techniques to be able to practice this dance safely and maintain a balance between freedom and control.
Whirling Dervish dance comes from Mawlawi/Sufi tradition in Konya, Turkey. The dance itself is traditionally called Sema. The dancers are called Semazen. In the old tradition, followers of Mevlana Jalâluddîn Rumi would do this dance as a part of their ritual.
In this workshop we will kindly leave the ritual part of this tradition aside and focus on the techniques of the dance and the philosophy of the movements. The dance itself already has a powerful effect on the mind and allows you to reach a meditative state.
If you are interested in having a nice yoga session, a bit of childish playtime, a rush of adrenaline and experience the feeling of the earth revolving, then come to this workshop and enjoy them all at once.
